Caroline Burton - Statement

Education

Having used clay at an early age and thanks to my mother's encouragement, I embarked on a 'studying ceramics journey' at night school at the age of 14. After studying at various levels over many years, I arrived at the last port of call- The University of the West of England, Bristol. Taught, encouraged and influenced by Mo Jupp, Nicholas Homoky and Roger Turrell, I graduated with a BA Hon in Ceramics.

The pots

My current work is a mixture of thrown, slipcast and hand built earthenware. All the designs are quite unique and are influenced by the world around me at the time! Each piece has a continuous story to tell. The work is full of narrative, fun, colour, texture and humour all pieced together like a tapestry. The images and patterns are my interpretations of the English countryside. Narrative and tapestry ideas derive from 'The Rich Tapestry of Life'!
