Caron uses
natural materials to explore the relationship between the simplicity and
perfection of form found in the figure and nature. She has been
incorporating art within gardens and interiors for over twenty years and has
a studio within the grounds of Stansted House in Hampshire.
Her
fascination for making ceramic heads allows her to explore a variety of
techniques including modelling, slip-casting and press moulding. As a
confirmed pyromaniac she also has the pleasure of using raku glazes and
smoke to allow the random nature of these firing processes to enhance the
forms. Other hand built sculptures explore the qualities of clay and the
subtle range of colours available from oxides, this work is stoneware fired
in an electric kiln.
Caron was
formally trained in ceramics at Cumbria College of Art and Design but
further study at Stafford College of Art developed her obsession with
sculptural and figurative forms. Her media exploration has since diversified
to include stone, wood and resin.
She
combines her time between creating her own artwork, working to private and
public commission and part-time teaching of sculpture and pottery at South
Downs College. She has recently completed a public commission for The Chapel
Of Rest at St. Georges Hospital in London. Caron was commissioned to create
a low relief for display within the garden to provide a calm environment in
which to grieve. The triptych panels were created using Portland limestone,
the design was designed to represent the journey after death, hopefully the
image will relate to many different faiths in that we all go on a journey
after death either by returning to the earth as pure elements or by our
celestial body travelling to our own personal heaven.
Other
recent commissions include ceramic portrait busts and stone heads for a
courtyard garden. New artwork work can be created to compliment your own
style, scale and budget.
