StatementMy work represents my most pleasurable experiences whilst touring around the awe-inspiring coastlines of The Ring of Kerry in Ireland, West Cornwall, Dorset and Hampshire. The Seascapes inspire my shallow bowl forms, vases and wall mounted ceramic plaques. They provide a canvas to which I can paint the image expressively. These pieces have a feeling of freshness and movement that is achieved by applying paperclay texture to the clay body. Then layers of slips, oxides, underglaze colours and glaze are applied with bold brushstrokes, mark making and drawings. Acrylic paint is applied only to the surface of the wall mounted ceramic plaques to emphasise the vibrant colours. I gained a BA (Hons) in Ceramics and Painting from the University of Wolverhampton in 2003. Since leaving I have been working as an art teacher whilst practicing as an artist from my studio. |
