StatementLiving close to the sea and countryside, Su finds inspiration for her ceramics in her natural surroundings. She trained as a textile designer, but now works as a community artist, sharing her love of artistic creativity with Children and Family centres, Schools, Youth clubs, Community projects, Hospices, Enrichment programmes for West Sussex County Council. Ten years ago, she enrolled for an evening class in ceramics and discovered the therapeutic and exciting qualities that clay has to offer. The changing seasons influence Su’s work, she hand-builds her unique garden sculptures, which are enhanced by the weathering of time. She has an amazing eye for detail, and achieves realistic texture and form to the individual pieces, which are made on a magnified scale. Giant fir cones, seed heads, fossils and pebbles are everywhere in Su’s newly built studio and landscaped garden, where she teaches textile, 3D sculpture and ceramics.
