Statementv My potting passion began at school during my ceramics GCSE course. On leaving school, I followed a rather more biological, than artistic pathway, studying zoology, botany, & chemistry at college, then microbiology and marine biology, to degree level. v Following a gap year in Australia, and a spell in retail, I then became interested in the philosophy of Montessori teaching. I have been teaching this nursery age range for almost ten years. v I have recently been re-inspired to take up pottery again, at evening classes. I find it a thoroughly absorbing and relaxing way to spend my time. I enjoy learning new skills, experimenting with texture, imprints & glazes. More recently I have been gripped by Raku fever! v Having been interested in nature since childhood, much of my inspiration comes from natural form and structure, including microscopic life, such as algae, plankton and pollen. I am also inspired by colour, and enjoy many other art forms, such as; textiles, painting, pastels, printing, mosaics and photography. v Most of my work is either slab or hand-built. As my ideas evolve, my intention is to create unique pieces, which may find their way to homes where they will be adored. v Each piece has to go through many individual stages from design, preparation, creation, embellishing, initial firing, glazing, raku-firing, stringing & hanging. v I have recently moved back to the area after several years on the Somerset levels. I love living by the sea, and am currently combining driftwood and other reclaimed materials into my work. |
