StatementAfter three years of evening classes at Goldsmiths’ College, London I studied part-time there in the Ceramics Department 1981-3, concentrating on throwing with Lisa Hammond. Following moving to Bournemouth, the births of four daughters and working in the tourism and construction industries I am now able to devote more time to potting. I like to make functional pottery for everyday use in the home. Most work in thrown on an electric wheel and decorated using a variety of slips and glazes to introduce colour. Recently I have started to use more relief decoration, often in conjunction with paper resist designs to bring another level of interest to the work, and I have introduced a sculptural element through more modelled handles and lids. Finally the pots are fired to 1280 C in an electric kiln I sell widely in Dorset, Hampshire and Wiltshire – at outside events and shows as well as with Southern Ceramic Group, Dorset Pottery Group and Christchurch and District Arts, and my work is always available in the Creative Gallery and the Acanthus Gallery, both in Wareham; Place Mill Gallery, Christchurch (April-October); Strawberry Fish Gallery in Hartley Wintney; Trowbridge Gallery, Castle Carey and Tunbridge Wells; and Tutti Arts in Warminster. |
