Rose Bates - Over View
My work falls mainly into two areas. I am currently working on crystalline
glazes for porcelain and white stoneware, the challenge of creating colourful
crystals onto suitable forms needs a dogged attitude in the face of sometimes
disappointing results amongst the increasingly lovely surprises.
The second area of work is sculpting, particularly the human form, each piece
differing with surface treatment and firing techniques. Raku and pit firing
give special, unique earthy colours with interesting crackle glazes highlighting
the fact that each piece of work is very different from its partner.
