Statement

Inspiration for my sculptural work comes from many different sources but mostly from the world of nature.  A harmonious blend of pattern and design, with shape and form gives birth to an infinitely varied, ever evolving body of work

Each piece begins life as a sequence of conceptual sketches from which the theme develops in Porcelain paper clay.  This is handled wet to retain vitality and fluidity of movement after which the finished sculpture is allowed to dry and made smooth for decorating.

I apply coloured underglazes and slips to decorate my work, usually in the green, unfired state, which is then slowly bisque fired to 1050°C.

The sculpture is finally glazed and matured to 1250°C.

Depending on size and complexity, each piece may take weeks or even months to complete.
