Statement
Su Cloud trained in Textiles at West Sussex College of Art and Design. For
twelve years she lectured in Adult Education Centres in West Sussex and
Hampshire, teaching stencilling and paint finishes. As well as being a higher
level teaching assistant, employed in a primary school and specializing in Art,
she is also a community artist, working with Chichester Festival Theatre and
Chichester Festivities.
Nature is the overriding inspiration for her work: fir cones, ammonites, poppy
heads, pebbles, gourds; their beauty excites her, generating her ideas. After
observing these natural forms and sketching them to capture their shapes and
patterns, Su is then able to add her own vision, to strive to recreate in clay
what she sees in nature and, in the process, to also discover the ways in which
her raw material can become a new, unique object, an expression of her nature.
