Glaze Group Meeting
11th December 2007
The meeting started with a look
at some lovely results Sue had achieved on her first attempt at one of
the glazes from the Mike Bailey book. It was the GA 23 satin matt
glaze by Judy Musicant, which Sue had used on a ginger jar pot with lid
made from Potclays white stoneware (1145) and fired in an electric kiln
to 1240c, the recipe is as follows:
GA23 Satin Matt Base Cone 6-7
Nepheline, 41.8; Gersley Borate,
10.4; Epk Kaolin, 12.5; Whiting, 10.4; Lithium Carbonate, 6.2; flint or
Quartz, 12.5; titanium dioxide, 6.2.
Plus 1.0%-2.0% Copper carbonate for
light green. 1.0% Cobalt oxide for light blue-green. 3.0% red Iron Oxide
for rusty bronze.
We then all adjourned to the back
yard, complete with hats, scarves and thermals for the glaze demo that
Charles had promised us. it was a line blend of a blue green
glaze. We had all brought along clay samples, and, as it happens,
they were all different clays, that we would then glaze and take home to
fire in our respective kilns to compare the results next meeting.
The next Glaze Group Meeting will be at Diana Carter's home: "Dellcroft",
Hensting Lane, Owlesbury, Nr Winchester at 12 noon on Tuesday 12th
February 2008, when we will hopefully share our results of this
experiment.
Everyone is welcome. A contribution towards a light lunch
will be appreciated. Let Diana Carter (01962 777297)
know if you plan to attend.
